A representative for the band stated that they did not authorize the use of their hit 1997 rock anthem at the event. As a result, any royalties received from this unauthorized use will be donated to Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign, with running mate Gov. Tim Walz. This incident is not the first time a recording artist has disputed the use of their music at a rally for the Republican presidential candidate. Earlier this month, Celine Dion criticized the unauthorized use of her song “My Heart Will Go On” at a rally in Montana. In response to the controversy, Harris’ campaign announced that it has raised $540 million since the launch of her presidential bid, and she will be embarking on a bus tour with Walz in Georgia, a key battleground state.
