Justin Timberlake Set to Plead Guilty to Impaired Driving, DWI Charge to Be Dropped in Deal with NY Prosecutors

Justin Timberlake is poised to plead guilty to one count of driving while impaired as part of a plea deal with prosecutors in Suffolk County, New York. Sources familiar with the case report that the agreement will see the prosecution drop a driving while intoxicated charge against the singer.

As part of the plea, Timberlake will face a to-be-determined fine, but the judge presiding over the case retains the authority to impose additional penalties. The agreement must still receive judicial approval at a hearing scheduled for Friday morning, during which Timberlake is expected to be present.

Prior to this agreement, Timberlake had entered a not guilty plea to the DWI charge, which is categorized as a misdemeanor. Had he been convicted, he could have faced a maximum sentence of one year in prison and a fine of up to $2,500.

In New York State, a blood alcohol content (BAC) exceeding .05 is considered legal evidence of impairment, while a BAC of .08 or greater qualifies as evidence of intoxication, according to the state Department of Motor Vehicles.

The incident that led to Timberlake’s arrest occurred in Sag Harbor in June. Police reported that he left The American Hotel bar shortly after midnight, drove his 2025 BMW down Main Street, and failed to stop at a stop sign while also veering out of his lane. Authorities stated that Timberlake failed a field sobriety test and declined to take a breathalyzer test multiple times, responding, “No, I’m not doing a chemical test.”

During a hearing in late July, Timberlake’s attorney contended that the performer was not intoxicated at the time of the arrest and argued against the validity of the arrest itself.

Timberlake has been in the midst of his Forget Tomorrow Tour this summer and is scheduled to perform next in New Jersey on September 28.
