Trump Adviser Slams Incoming UK Ambassador as ‘Absolute Moron’

In a recent controversial statement that has sparked debate, Chris LaCivita, a prominent campaign adviser to President-elect Donald Trump, has labeled the incoming UK ambassador to the United States, Lord Peter Mandelson, as “an absolute moron.” This remark was made on a social media platform and highlights the tension surrounding Mandelson’s diplomatic appointment. LaCivita, who previously co-managed Trump’s presidential campaign, criticized the British government’s choice to replace the existing ambassador with someone he believes is not qualified. He voiced concerns over the transition from a “professional universally respected ambassador” to Mandelson, suggesting that the appointment is misguided.

Lord Mandelson is an influential figure in British politics, well-recognized for his tenure in multiple ministerial roles under Prime Minister Tony Blair and his successor Gordon Brown. His extensive political experience culminated in his appointment to the House of Lords, a position he has held since he was elevated to a life peerage. Mandelson himself has characterized his forthcoming role as the UK’s ambassador to the US as “a great honor,” acknowledging the importance of this position at a critical juncture in US-UK relations.

Reported by The Times, the transition in ambassadorship comes as Dame Karen Pierce’s term is concluding, coinciding with Trump’s administration taking office in early 2025. Lord Mandelson, often referred to as the “Prince of Darkness” due to his strategic and sometimes controversial political maneuvers, will now serve as the pivotal link between the UK government and the incoming Trump administration—a task that underlines the significance of diplomacy between the two nations.

However, Mandelson’s appointment is not without criticism. Notably, he has a history of denouncing Donald Trump, labeling him as “little short of a white nationalist and racist” in past remarks. These statements have been spotlighted by LaCivita, who reiterated these sentiments in his social media critique, questioning Mandelson’s suitability for the ambassadorial role given his previous comments about Trump.

In response to his incoming responsibilities, Lord Mandelson stated that the UK faces both challenges and significant opportunities, expressing eagerness to partner with the government to navigate and realize those opportunities in the US. As such, he is positioning himself not only as a formal representative but also as a proactive facilitator of UK interests in America.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer expressed enthusiasm regarding Mandelson’s appointment, stressing the importance of the US as a vital ally. Starmer highlighted Mandelson’s unrivaled experience, asserting that his expertise would enhance the longstanding partnership between the UK and the US. He further praised outgoing ambassador Dame Karen Pierce for her contributions during her tenure.

Despite Starmer’s supportive remarks, the decision to appoint a leading politician as an ambassador—typically reserved for career diplomats—has prompted scrutiny. Senior Conservative MP Sir Iain Duncan Smith has called for an investigation into Mandelson’s background, questioning whether a political appointee may carry historical biases that could complicate diplomatic relations.

Adding to the complexity of the situation, Lord Mandelson has previously described Trump in unflattering terms during interviews, including calling him a “bully.” However, Mandelson appears to be moderating his rhetoric since being considered for the ambassadorship. In recent interactions, he suggested the necessity of establishing a “new relationship” with Trump. His comments indicate a shift toward diplomacy and a desire to influence Trump’s decisions positively.

As the landscape of US-UK relations shifts under the incoming administration, Lord Mandelson’s ability to navigate this complex diplomatic terrain will be crucial. Notably, he has also suggested fostering connections with tech mogul Elon Musk, known for his critical voice against the current Labour government. Mandelson’s diplomatic skills will likely be tested as the UK seeks to adapt to the evolving political climate and leverage opportunities that emerge during this pivotal period.
