Taylor Fritz recently shared that Novak Djokovic has been in touch with him as he recovers from knee surgery. Fritz mentioned that Djokovic has reached out to him and asked some questions about the recovery process. He also expressed optimism about Djokovic’s chances of playing at Wimbledon despite the surgery, pointing out that he himself was able to compete at the Grand Slam event just three weeks after undergoing the procedure.

Fritz revealed that the key factor in determining whether Djokovic would be fit to play at Wimbledon is the level of inflammation in his knee. He emphasized that recovering from such surgery requires managing inflammation and the body’s reaction to it. Fritz noted that he was hitting again only five to six days after his own surgery, highlighting the individual differences in recovery timelines.

Despite his quick return to competition after knee surgery, Fritz acknowledged that Djokovic’s situation may be different given the Serbian’s ambitions to win titles. Fritz mentioned that his goal at Wimbledon was not to contend for the championship but to win a couple of rounds. In contrast, Djokovic’s expectations for Wimbledon would be higher, as he strives to perform at his best and compete for the title.

Reflecting on his own performance at Wimbledon in previous years, Fritz shared that his success at the tournament had gradually improved with each appearance. He credited his backhand and serve as key strengths on grass courts, which required time to adjust and find his rhythm. Fritz highlighted the importance of timing in his game on grass and noted that he typically performed better in the latter stages of the grass court season.

In terms of his current form, Fritz expressed satisfaction with his performance at Queen’s, where he secured a victory over Taro Daniel. He acknowledged that it was his first week on grass this year and that he had limited practice leading up to the tournament. Despite these challenges, Fritz felt that he played solid tennis and was focused on fine-tuning his game for Wimbledon.

Looking ahead to Wimbledon, Fritz emphasized the need to adapt quickly to the grass surface and ensure that he was playing his best tennis. He mentioned that his previous successes at Wimbledon had come in the later stages of the grass court season, highlighting the importance of finding form and momentum heading into the prestigious tournament.

Overall, Fritz’s insights into Djokovic’s recovery and his own preparations for Wimbledon shed light on the physical and mental challenges that players face in the lead-up to a Grand Slam event. As both players navigate the complexities of injury rehabilitation and tournament preparation, their experiences serve as a reminder of the resilience and determination required to compete at the highest level of professional tennis.
