As the United States gears up to celebrate the 249th anniversary of its independence, citizens across the nation will be engaging in festivities, which often include fireworks displays, community parades, and the quintessential barbecue gatherings. However, amidst the revelry, it’s important for individuals to be mindful of the various business closures that will occur on this federal holiday. Preparations for the Fourth of July can sometimes lead to surprises if one fails to check the availability of stores and services ahead of time.

The Fourth of July, recognized annually on the day the Declaration of Independence was adopted in 1776, stands as a significant day in American history. Signified as a federal holiday, many government offices and banks will not operate, and numerous businesses will also be closed, which implies that planning is essential to ensure a smooth holiday experience. It is advisable for individuals to check which establishments may be open or closed to avoid unplanned disruptions.

This year, the Fourth of July falls on a Friday, conveniently providing many with an extended weekend. Consequently, various retail outlets are likely to adjust their typical hours of operation to accommodate the holiday. Major retailers like Target and Walmart will maintain regular business hours, allowing shoppers to take advantage of their services without much interruption. When it comes to grocery shopping, major supermarket chains operating under the Kroger banner, which include Fred Meyer, Dillons, Food 4 Less, Ralphs, and QFC, will also see their stores open during usual hours, although it’s wise to keep in mind that individual store hours may differ significantly.

In addition to the aforementioned stores, various other grocery retailers are preparing to welcome customers on the Fourth of July. Popular chains like Whole Foods, Wegmans, and Food Lion will open as per normal schedule. Trader Joe’s will have adjusted hours, closing early at 5 p.m., while ALDI will end operations at 4 p.m. For shoppers looking to stock up on goods before heading to weekend gatherings, Sam’s Club will provide flexible shopping options: open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. for Plus members, and later for Club members from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. However, it is noteworthy that Costco warehouses will close their doors in observance of the holiday.

Those intending to make a trip to retail establishments should also be aware that most TJ Maxx, HomeGoods, and Marshalls locations plan to operate until 8 p.m. Several well-known department stores like Nordstrom, JCPenney, and Macy’s will follow their regular hours as well. For those visiting dollar stores, Dollar General and Dollar Tree will also be open, but it’s important to remember that operating hours might be variable.

Beauty enthusiasts, in need of last-minute skincare or makeup products, can find solace in the fact that retailers like Sephora and Ulta Beauty will remain open on Independence Day. For those looking for health and wellness products, CVS pharmacies will be available, although some outlets may run on reduced hours. In contrast, Walgreens is set to operate on regular hours, though many pharmacies will not be in service. Rite Aid, however, will remain functional.

Important to note for businesses operating in financial markets, the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will remain closed for the day. Most banking institutions across the country will also be shuttered due to the designation of July 4 as a Federal Reserve holiday; however, patrons can still access online banking services and ATMs.

As for postal services, the United States Postal Service will not be delivering or picking up mail, making it essential for individuals to plan accordingly. Similarly, UPS will suspend its pickup and delivery service for the day, with the exception of urgent shipments available through UPS Express Critical. FedEx will also halt most of its services, save for urgent deliveries through FedEx Custom Critical. Lastly, nonessential government offices, including the DMV and local libraries, will be closed for the holiday.

In conclusion, while the Fourth of July brings about great excitement and celebration, it is advisable for those celebrating this year to conduct thorough checks on the operating hours of various essential businesses to mitigate any inconvenience. Happy Independence Day to all!
