Cybertruck Troubles Continue: Tesla Issues Two New Recalls on Model

In the latest news, Tesla has issued two recalls on the Cybertruck, making it the third and fourth recalls since the model was introduced late last year. The latest recall affects almost all of the nearly 12,000 trucks on the road and involves the truck’s huge single windshield wiper and a piece of plastic trim along the edge of the truck bed.

According to documents posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website, the piece of black plastic trim along the truck’s angled bed wall can come loose and detach from the vehicle while driving, posing a road hazard for following motorists and increasing their risk of injury or collision.

The problem with the trim piece was discovered when it was missing on a Cybertruck that had been transported to a delivery center on a car hauler truck. An investigation by Tesla revealed that the piece had not been properly installed, leading to more cases of the trim pieces coming loose due to improper installation, including some cases on Cybertrucks that had been delivered to customers.

To address this issue, Cybertruck owners will be asked to bring their vehicles to a Tesla service center where the trim piece will either be replaced or installed properly with “adhesion promoter” and pressure-sensitive tape. Owners will start receiving notifications of the recall in mid-August.

In addition to the trim piece recall, the trucks are also being recalled for a separate issue with the electric motor that powers the single huge windshield wiper. Some of the motors were damaged during testing in a way that can allow excessive electrical current to run through the motor, causing it to fail.

This is not the first time the Cybertruck has been recalled. In April, the trucks were recalled because the accelerator pedal could become stuck down. In January, Tesla issued a software recall for 2.2 million vehicles, including Cybertrucks, due to small letters on warning lights that were difficult to read. This issue was resolved through an over-the-air software update.
