Emma Raducanu showcased her skill and patience on the grass courts as she easily advanced to the second round of the LTA’s Rothesay International Eastbourne tournament. The 21-year-old wild card dominated her match against Sloane Stephens, winning the first set 6-4 and the second set 6-0. Raducanu, currently ranked 168th in the world, has been working hard to regain her form after undergoing wrist and ankle surgeries last year.

Despite her time off the court, the Bromley native impressed at the LTA’s Rothesay Open Nottingham, reaching the semi-finals and proving that she has a bright future on the surface. Raducanu highlighted the importance of adapting to different court conditions, especially on the unfamiliar Centre Court in Eastbourne. She acknowledged the challenge of facing Stephens, a formidable opponent known for her athleticism, but managed to find her rhythm and secure the victory in the second set.

Reflecting on her performance, Raducanu expressed gratitude for the support of the crowd and the opportunity to compete on a larger stage in Eastbourne. She praised the beautiful weather and scenery, making the most of her time at the tournament. Looking ahead, Raducanu is focused on maintaining her momentum and preparing for her upcoming match against Jessica Pegula, the second qualifying seed who recently won a grass-court title at the Berlin Open.

Raducanu’s success in Eastbourne has bolstered her confidence and solidified her return to form after missing the French Open earlier this year. With a Wimbledon singles wild card in hand, she is eager to make her mark at the prestigious tournament alongside fellow British players Katie Boulter and Harriet Dart. Raducanu emphasized the importance of recovery and strategic play on the grass courts, adjusting to the heavier balls and ensuring she is ready for the challenges ahead.

As the British summer grass court season unfolds, fans can follow Raducanu’s journey and the latest updates on the LTA website. With her impressive performance in Eastbourne and a strong support system behind her, Raducanu is poised to make a splash in the tennis world and continue her ascent up the rankings. Stay tuned for more thrilling matches and inspiring moments from this rising star on the court.
