Puppies Rescued from Abandonment in 100-Degree Heat in Texas

A litter of puppies was rescued after being left inside a carrier on a field in Tarrant County, Texas, in triple-digit temperatures. The eight pups were abandoned without water in 100-degree heat on Monday, according to the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post. Fortunately, a good Samaritan found the dogs and reported the finding to authorities. Officials with the sheriff’s office wrote online that due to a lack of surveillance cameras in the area where the puppies were found, it is unlikely that the person who dumped them will be caught.

Deputies Collin Stephenson and Haley Drew of the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Fort Worth Animal Care and Control team, stepped in and rescued the dogs. The Fort Worth Animal Care and Control team posted an update on Facebook that included photos of the animals. The post mentioned that the puppies rescued from the carrier in the scorching weather are doing much better. The 6-week-old pups are currently at the Chuck & Brenda Silcox Animal Care and Adoption Center. They are believed to be a shepherd mix, and the adoption center has given them names inspired by popular chip brands.

The dogs’ new names are Cheetos, Fritos, Ruffles, Lays Potato, Cheese Itz, Doritos, and Pringles. Deputy Stephenson expressed his interest in adopting one of the eight puppies. The animal shelter is looking for fosters and adopters for the puppies, with plans to make them available for adoption sometime next week. Tips from the American Red Cross on keeping pets safe in the heat include never leaving a pet in a hot vehicle, limiting exercise on hot days, walking pets in grass to avoid burning their paws, and ensuring pets have access to shade and cool water when outside.

Fox News Digital reached out to Fort Worth Animal Care and Control and the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office for additional comments on the rescue. The rescue of the puppies in Tarrant County, Texas highlights the importance of proper care for pets in extreme weather conditions. Abandoning animals in hot temperatures can have deadly consequences, making it crucial for individuals to take responsibility for their pets’ well-being. The actions of good Samaritans and law enforcement officials in rescuing these puppies demonstrate the power of compassion and teamwork in helping animals in need.
