David Gilbert has been in impressive form as he advanced to the final group stage of the Championship League with three straight wins in Leicester. Gilbert, a former Championship League winner, topped Group B after defeating Ashley Carty (3-1), He Guoqiang (3-1) and Stuart Bingham (3-0). His victory secured his spot in the next phase of the competition, with his top break of 132 coming in his match against He. This strong performance saw him finish five points ahead of the 2015 world champion Bingham, showcasing his skill and consistency on the table.

Joining Gilbert in the next phase is Long Zehuang, who claimed the top spot in Group C. Long recovered from an initial 3-1 loss to defending champion Shaun Murphy to secure impressive 3-0 victories over Hossein Vafaei and Jamie Jones. Murphy, on the other hand, needed a win against Vafaei in his final match to progress, but was defeated 3-0, allowing Long to top the group based on frame difference.

The Championship League features a format where 32 groups of four players compete in the first stage. The winners of each group then move on to participate in a further two groups, with the ultimate goal of reaching the final. The event offers a total prize money of £33,000 for the winner, along with a spot in the Champion of Champions later in the year, worth an additional £12,500 for qualifying players.

Among the first-stage group winners were notable players such as Neil Robertson, Ryan Day, Mark Williams, and Shaun Murphy, who will all continue to compete in the championship. The competition is fierce as players battle it out for a chance to claim the title and secure their spot in the prestigious Champion of Champions event.

The Championship League is a highly anticipated event in the world of professional snooker, with players from around the globe showcasing their skills and competing for glory. Fans can follow all the action on discovery+, the streaming home of the Olympic Games and the exclusive platform to watch every moment of Paris 2024 this summer. With exciting matches and thrilling performances, the Championship League promises to deliver top-tier snooker entertainment for fans and players alike.
