is a powerful skill.32. Seek out moments of solitude. In a noisy, chaotic world, silence and solitude have become luxuries. Make time to be alone with your own thoughts. Reflect, meditate, pray. Listen to yourself.33. Treat the people you love with promptness and kindness. The people closest to us are often those we treat the worst. Be better. They deserve better. Reach out. Do the work.34. Develop at least one creative pursuit. It doesn’t matter if you’re “good” at it. Writing, painting, pottery, dancing, cooking — something that requires you to engage a different part of your brain to create.35. Family always comes first. In a crisis, everything else ultimately fades away. Invest in your family. Love them unconditionally. Show up.36. There are no permanent failures. Regrettable decisions, lost opportunities, paths not taken – everything can be overcome in time. Learn, grow, adapt. “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.””In humility, consider others better than yourself.” 37. Cultivate gratitude. A life of thanksgiving is a life of contentment. Say thank you often to others and to the universe.38. Find a way to serve others that is meaningful to you. The world has enormous needs. We each can do something about those needs. Find your way to serve.39. Habits of sacrifice and generosity are learned. Be intentional and disciplined in learning/cultivating them. Learn to give sacrificially and to bend your life toward the good of others.40. The purest love is often the hardest language to speak. We all have people in our lives for whom sacrificing, serving and loving is often hard and unappreciated. They, particularly, need us, and our world, to demonstrate boundless love and care.41. Don’t worry about having the last word. Sometimes, the other person should have it. Sometimes, no one should. Letting go of the felt need to be right can lead to real healing.42. Understand that people see you through their own pain, insecurities and lenses of prejudice. Remember, they are speaking to you but judging themselves. Offer them grace — even if they won’t offer it to you.43. Live in the present. Yesterday is gone; tomorrow is uncertain. All we have is this moment. Lean into it. Experience it fully. Cherish it. Forgive. Love. Act. Do good. Make the most of the gift you’ve been given.Today, Coleman’s life might look very different from yours – or it might closely resemble the life you have always dreamed of living. Regardless, his insights are shared here not as a prescription for how to live, but as an encouragement for each of us to consider what lessons we have learned and how we can continue to grow and thrive in all areas of life. So whether you’re celebrating a milestone birthday, reflecting on the passage of time, or just seeking some wisdom to carry you through the day, take some time to reflect on the lessons that have shaped your life and the ones you have yet to learn.
