Noah Lyles Shatters US Olympic Trials Record in 200m Win!

Noah Lyles, a standout track and field athlete, made history at the US Olympic trials by setting a new record in the 200m event. His blazing time of 19.53s not only secured him a first-place finish but also marked the fastest time recorded worldwide for the event in 2024. This impressive achievement surpassed the previous record held by legendary sprinter Michael Johnson, who clocked in at 19.66s during the Atlanta Olympic Games qualifiers in 1996.

Having already claimed victory in the 100m event earlier in the trials, Lyles faced fierce competition from his rivals Kenny Bednarek and Erriyon Knighton in the 200m final. Despite having to come from behind, Lyles showcased his exceptional speed and skill to cross the finish line ahead of Bednarek and Knighton, who secured second and third place, respectively. Lyles, who won a bronze medal in the 200m at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, is no stranger to success on the world stage, having clinched three world championship titles in the same event.

In a post-race interview, Lyles expressed his satisfaction with his performance, stating, “The goal was to win both the 100 and 200, and I’m glad to have achieved that.” He acknowledged that the race did not unfold according to the initial plan, as Bednarek’s strong start forced him to adjust his strategy. Despite the challenge, Lyles remained composed and focused on executing his race plan to perfection.

The Florida native also opened up about his battle with depression, revealing that he struggled with mental health issues following his third-place finish in Tokyo. Lyles attributed his renewed sense of vigor and determination to his improved mental well-being, noting the importance of maintaining a healthy mindset in pursuit of his athletic goals. With his sights set on the upcoming Paris Olympics, Lyles is determined to deliver a standout performance that reflects his physical and mental resilience.

Bednarek, who secured second place in both the 100m and 200m finals, expressed his disappointment at narrowly missing out on the top spot. Despite falling short of victory, Bednarek remains optimistic about his chances of claiming gold in Paris, emphasizing his commitment to surpassing Lyles in future competitions. Determined to learn from his experiences and make strategic adjustments, Bednarek is poised to elevate his performance on the global stage.
