In a breaking news development, GOP Representative Victoria Spartz has been charged with a weapons violation at Washington Dulles International Airport, as confirmed by a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Airports Authority speaking to CNN.
Spartz, a prominent Republican hailing from Indiana, is facing charges for violating a specific section of Virginia law that prohibits the carrying of any firearm, explosive, or stun weapon into an air carrier airport terminal, as per the spokesperson.
CNN has made attempts to reach out to Spartz’s office for a statement, but as of now, she has received a summons to appear in a Virginia court, according to the Metropolitan Airports Authority spokesperson.
The charge against Spartz is considered a Class 1 misdemeanor, although further details surrounding the incident have not been disclosed at this time.
Elected as the first Ukrainian-born member of Congress in 2020, Spartz has been an influential figure within the Republican Party, particularly in advocating for a robust US response to Russia’s invasion. However, earlier this year, she took a stance against a foreign aid package that included $61 billion for Ukraine.
Despite these recent events, in May, Spartz successfully secured victory in a closely contested Republican primary for her 5th District seat, representing the northeastern suburbs of Indianapolis.
