President Biden to Face Tough Questions in First Post-Debate TV Interview on ABC

President Joe Biden’s first television interview following his controversial debate with former President Trump last week has been scheduled. The interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos will air on Friday at 6:30 p.m. ET on “World News Tonight with David Muir” and extended portions will be shown on “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.”

During last week’s debate hosted by CNN, Biden struggled to complete sentences and appeared lost while Trump delivered falsehoods, raising concerns about Biden’s age and ability to serve a second term.

This interview is a significant moment for Biden after his lackluster debate performance. Despite making public appearances since the debate, Biden has only read prepared remarks at those events. This will be his first off-the-cuff appearance since the debate, which several White House allies have called for to address concerns about his mental acuity.

ABC News has not yet responded to whether the full unedited interview will be published due to usual editing constraints for television shows. Biden’s last major interview was with David Muir in Normandy last month, and he previously spoke with CNN’s Erin Burnett and Time magazine’s Massimo Calabresi.

This upcoming ABC interview will be Biden’s fourth major television interview of 2024, as indicated by a CNN tally, showing that he has held fewer interviews than his recent predecessors. The story has been updated to include additional context and developments.
