The new season of “The Bachelorette” is set to premiere with the first Asian American lead, Jenn Tran, at the helm. Tran, 26, who previously appeared on “The Bachelor,” expressed her excitement for the upcoming season.
In an interview with People magazine, Tran shared her thoughts on watching the show, despite already experiencing it firsthand. “Are you kidding me? I’m not going to watch the best two months of my life? Of course, I am!” she said. “I am so excited for it to premiere. I feel like it’s so weird that this crazy journey happened, and I am just so excited to be able to watch it back.”
Tran also addressed the challenges she faced as an Asian American on reality TV, acknowledging the existence of racism. Despite receiving hate messages, she expressed gratitude for being able to inspire others who have not seen representation like her before.
As a physician assistant, Tran was occupied with filming “The Bachelorette” and only learned about the backlash to her casting afterward. She remained grateful for the opportunity to be the first Asian American lead on the show.
Reflecting on her experience, Tran shared her satisfaction with the outcome of the season. “I’m very happy with the ending and I’m very happy with the way everything panned out,” she said. “I learned so much every day that I was there [to find out] about myself and what I wanted in a relationship. There was so much growth.”
“The Bachelorette” featuring Jenn Tran airs on Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
