In a recent development, the GOP-led House Oversight Committee has issued subpoenas to three White House aides for depositions later this month regarding President Joe Biden’s health, as confirmed by the committee.
The subpoenas were directed towards Anthony Bernal, Annie Tomasini, and Ashley Williams, as per a committee news release.
This move comes as part of the Republicans’ ongoing efforts to scrutinize the president’s mental acuity, particularly in light of Biden’s recent debate performance that has stirred concerns among Democrats.
Responding to the subpoenas, White House spokesman for investigations Ian Sams criticized House Oversight Committee chairman Rep. Jim Comer of Kentucky. Sams accused Comer of engaging in a “baseless political stunt” to garner media attention instead of conducting genuine oversight activities.
Sams stated, “His partisan attacks on the President have been discredited, and now he continues to debase the House by weaponizing subpoenas to get headlines instead of seeking information through the proper constitutional process.”
In addition to the subpoenas, Republicans have also sought an interview with Biden’s physician, Kevin O’Connor. They are also pushing to obtain audio tapes of the president’s interviews with former special counsel Robert Hur.
