In a recent development, an Arizona judge has granted permission for several individuals facing criminal charges related to the alleged conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election results to travel to Milwaukee next week for the Republican National Convention.
Amongst the Arizona delegation attending the convention are three individuals who have been charged as fake electors in connection to the 2020 election plot in the state. These individuals will play a role in officially nominating Donald Trump as the GOP’s presidential candidate for the 2024 election.
One of the defendants, Nancy Cottle, received approval earlier this month to attend the RNC despite facing multiple felonies for her involvement as a pro-Trump fake elector from Arizona four years ago. The order from Superior Court Judge Bruce Cohen explicitly states, “IT IS ORDERED granting Defendant Cottle (and any other named defendant in this matter who may need a similar order) permission to travel to Wisconsin to attend the Republican National Convention scheduled for the week of July 15, 2024.”
Furthermore, Arizona state Sen. Jake Hoffman and state Sen. Anthony Kern, both of whom have pleaded not guilty, will also be permitted to travel to Wisconsin for the convention. All three defendants were required to seek the court’s approval to travel as part of their pre-trial release conditions.
In addition to Arizona, six other battleground states will be sending individuals, including fake electors, who were involved in efforts to challenge the 2020 election results to represent their state parties at the RNC in Milwaukee. It remains unclear whether those facing election-related charges in other states have obtained or require permission to travel to the convention.
