In a historic event on Thursday night, President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump went head-to-head in a debate like never before. For the first time in US history, a sitting president faced off against a former president. This debate marked the first time either Biden or Trump had participated in a debate since 2020, with Biden securing the Democratic nomination without much opposition and Trump opting out of the GOP debates during the primary season.
The debate, lasting approximately 90 minutes, took place at CNN’s studios in Atlanta and was helmed by moderators Jake Tapper and Dana Bash. In a departure from the norm, there was no live audience present, making it an unusual sight for a presidential debate.
Adding to the uniqueness of the event, this debate also set a record as the earliest presidential debate in US history. Typically, debates between general election candidates commence in September or early October.
