Chris Wood Extends Nottingham Forest Stay with New Contract Until 2027!

In recent developments within the realm of English football, Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood has officially concluded a new contract which will ensure his stay at the City Ground until 2027. This news comes during a vibrant season where the player has displayed remarkable performance, solidifying his status as an integral part of the team’s offensive lineup. Wood has found the back of the net 14 times in 22 Premier League appearances this season, contributing significantly to Nottingham Forest’s commendable position at third in the league standings.

Chris Wood, aged 33, joined Nottingham Forest on loan from Newcastle United in January 2023 but made his transfer permanent in June of the same year. Despite his relatively short time with the club, he has already become their all-time leading Premier League goalscorer, surpassing Bryan Roy’s previous record of 24 goals in December. Such feats underline Wood’s potential and dedication to the team, which has resonated with both fans and management alike.

Following his contract signing, Wood expressed his enthusiasm about committing his future to Nottingham Forest, highlighting the ambitious vision laid out by owner Evangelos Marinakis. Wood reflects on the initial conversations he had with the owner and his family, acknowledging their aspirations for the club and their dedication, which predated their promotion to the Premier League. He voiced gratitude towards the fans for their unwavering support, which he characterized as a significant part of his journey with the club.

With the completion of his new contract, which replaces a prior agreement set to expire at the end of the season, Wood is not alone in his decision to continue with Forest, as he is the second player this month to renew his commitment, following center-back Murillo’s extension of his contract for an additional four and a half years.

Furthermore, Wood’s performances have not gone unnoticed; he was named Nottingham Forest’s first Premier League Player of the Month in November, becoming the first player from New Zealand to achieve this honor. The team’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis, praised Wood’s dedication and winning mentality, stating that he represents the spirit of wearing the iconic Garibaldi red jersey. Marinakis emphasized that Wood is not only a goal-scorer but also a role model for his teammates, reinforcing the club’s commitment to rewarding dedication and hard work.

Throughout the current season, Wood’s contributions have been vital as Nottingham Forest strives for success both domestically and potentially on the European stage. The club boasted two UEFA European Cup victories in 1979 and 1980 and aims to replicate that success in future campaigns. The striker, having scored 30 goals in 65 appearances across all competitions, is currently a critical asset as Forest attempts to build upon their strong form under manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who took charge in December 2023.

The team has exhibited resilience, remaining unbeaten in eight league matches and marking themselves as one of the few teams to have defeated this season’s table-toppers, Liverpool, with a notable victory at Anfield. As they energetically pursue a Champions League spot, Nottingham Forest sits comfortably within the race, six points ahead of fifth-placed Manchester City, showing the determination and capabilities of Wood and his teammates.

In sum, Chris Wood’s commitment to Nottingham Forest until 2027 reflects both personal ambition and the shared vision for success within the club. As he continues to make strides on the pitch, the partnership between Wood and Nottingham Forest promises to flourish in the years ahead, as both parties strive for recognition on both domestic and continental stages.
