In a recent interview at the American Black Film Festival in Miami, Denzel Washington opened up about his friendship with the late Whitney Houston, his co-star in the 1996 film “The Preacher’s Wife.” Reflecting on their time together, Washington expressed, “I always felt like I wanted to protect her. She wanted to be so tough, but she really wasn’t.”
Courtney Vance, who also starred in the film, shared his admiration for Houston, calling her a “huge, huge part” of his life. Vance revealed, “For me to be playing her husband, I was in a state of euphoric shock. I loved her so much.”
Despite their close working relationship, Vance admitted that he was not fully aware of the extent of Houston’s struggles with substance abuse. “We just were on sets together and respecting each other,” he said. “But I didn’t go into the depth of what was happening in her life.”
