In a recent interview with The Times of London, “Friends” co-creator Marta Kauffman shared her thoughts on how to honor the late actor Matthew Perry, who passed away last year due to a Ketamine overdose. Kauffman suggested two ways to celebrate Perry’s life – one is to donate to drug and treatment centers to “fight this disease,” and the other is to watch “Friends” and remember him for his humor and joy.
Matthew Perry, who played Chandler Bing on the beloved NBC sitcom, died at the age of 54 in October 2023. He was found floating face down in a jacuzzi at his Pacific Palisades home, and the autopsy report confirmed that he died as a result of the “acute effects of ketamine” and subsequent drowning.
In connection with Perry’s death, the US Attorney’s Office announced that five people have been charged. Investigators uncovered an underground network of drug sellers and suppliers believed to be responsible for distributing the ketamine. The defendants include two doctors, Perry’s personal live-in assistant, and a person referred to as “The Ketamine Queen.”
Kauffman also shared a personal anecdote about her last interaction with Perry, recalling a FaceTime conversation where he seemed “really good” just two weeks before his death. It is unclear if Kauffman’s comments were made before or after the news of the indictments were made public.
Representatives for the cast of “Friends” have been contacted for comment by CNN. In a tribute posted on Instagram in November, Jennifer Aniston remembered Perry for his humor and ability to make everyone laugh, highlighting how important laughter was to him.
