In a recent news release, HBO has announced that the hit prequel series “House of the Dragon” will be returning for a third season. The news comes just ahead of the debut of the show’s second season on Sunday.

HBO programming executive, Francesca Orsi, expressed excitement for the continuation of the series, stating, “We could not be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen and watch this team burn bright again for Season 3.”

“House of the Dragon” is based on George R.R. Martin’s book “Fire & Blood” and explores the civil war within House Targaryen, set 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones.”

The series, which premiered in 2022, has been a massive hit with viewers, drawing in millions of viewers in its first season. The Season 1 finale episode garnered 9.3 million viewers, making it the biggest finale night for an HBO series since the conclusion of “Thrones” in 2019.

The ensemble cast of “House of the Dragon” includes stars like Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, and many others.

Fans can catch the second season of “House of the Dragon” streaming on Max starting Sunday at 9 p.m. EDT.
