In an exclusive report, an international roaming outage is currently affecting customers of the three major US mobile carriers, leaving many American customers with limited or no access to calls, messages, and data while abroad.
AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon have all confirmed to CNN that their customers are experiencing intermittent issues with international roaming services.
According to a spokesperson from T-Mobile, the outage is due to a third-party vendor’s issue impacting multiple providers. T-Mobile is actively working with the vendor to resolve the issue.
Verizon has reported that approximately 30% of its customers are unable to make calls or access data connections while overseas.
The root of the problem has been traced back to Syniverse, an international third-party communications provider responsible for managing international roaming connections for various carriers.
In a statement released by Syniverse, the company acknowledged the connectivity issues that began early Thursday morning. They have been collaborating with their network partners to restore full service and expressed appreciation for customers’ patience during this challenging time.
The cause of the outage has not been disclosed by Syniverse.
CNN’s Jordan Valinsky has contributed to this report.
