Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito was notably absent on Friday morning as the Court delivered opinions in the courtroom, marking the second consecutive day he was not present.
Alito’s absence, which the Supreme Court has not provided an explanation for, is particularly unusual as it comes at the end of the term with the justices issuing nine opinions over the last two days.
One of the opinions delivered on Friday upheld a federal law that prohibits guns for domestic abusers, rejecting arguments from gun rights groups that the prohibition violated the Second Amendment.
In recent news, Alito has made headlines for controversial flag displays outside of his properties, including an incident where a US flag was flown inverted outside his home in 2021, and another flag displayed during the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol, which was flown outside Alito’s vacation home in New Jersey.
