In breaking news, the highly anticipated sequel to Kevin Costner’s western movie franchise has been postponed. The follow-up to “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1” was originally set to hit theaters on August 16, but New Line Cinema has confirmed to CNN that this release date has been pushed back.
The decision to delay the film was made to allow more time for audiences to discover the first installment of “Horizon,” which is currently showing in theaters and available on PVOD and the MAX streaming platform.
A spokesperson expressed gratitude to theater partners for their support in showcasing the film to moviegoers across the country. “Horizon: An American Saga” premiered on June 28 and has earned less than $23.5 million globally under the distribution of Warner Bros., a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company of CNN.
Costner’s passion project, which he co-wrote, produced, directed, and stars in, unfolds during the era of the American Civil War. Despite concerns about the film’s extended running time and planned multiple installments, Costner remains dedicated to bringing this unique vision to the screen.
Speaking with CNN prior to the first movie’s release, Costner emphasized his commitment to creating engaging and distinctive films. “I make movies for people so that they won’t be bored,” he explained. “I give them a taste of something in a different direction, which is probably why it’s hard for me to get them made at first ‘cause they’re a little different.”
With a reported personal investment of $38 million, Costner has begun filming the third installment of what was intended to be a four-part movie series. The delay of the sequel allows for a wider audience to experience the epic tale of “Horizon: An American Saga.”
