News Report:
Renowned actress Mariska Hargitay, known for her role as Captain Olivia Benson on “Law & Order: SVU,” has been actively involved in solving real-life crimes through her End The Backlog efforts.
During an appearance on “Today,” journalist Andrea Canning discussed the latest episode of the “Dateline True Crime Weekly” podcast, focusing on Michigan prosecutor Kym Worthy and her backlog of untested rape kits. Hargitay stepped in to help raise funds to move forward with the tests, making a significant impact nationwide.
End the Backlog is part of the Joyful Heart Foundation, founded by Hargitay in 2004 with the mission of changing society’s response to sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse, supporting survivors’ healing, and ending violence.
CNN has reached out to Hargitay’s representatives for comment on her efforts.
This isn’t the first time Hargitay’s real-life actions have mirrored her on-screen character. In a previous incident, a lost child approached her on the set of “Law & Order,” seeking assistance, to which Hargitay responded with maternal instincts.
Hargitay’s dedication to her work both on and off the screen continues to make a positive impact in the fight against crime and injustice.
