Pogacar Aims to Soar Even Higher: Cycling Star Sets Sights on an Unprecedented 2025 Season!

Tadej Pogacar, the Slovenian cycling prodigy, has publicly expressed his aspirations for the upcoming 2024 season, aiming to build upon the monumental successes he achieved in 2023. As he prepares for another year of elite competition, Pogacar is set to participate in two of the three major Grand Tours, highlighting his continued pursuit of excellence in professional cycling.

This past season has been nothing short of historic for the young athlete. Making waves in the cycling community, Pogacar became the first competitor since the legendary Stephen Roche in 1987 to clinch victories in the Giro d’Italia, the Tour de France, and the World Championship road race—all within the same year. His exceptional performance reached yet another pinnacle as he secured two prestigious Monuments, piling up an astounding total of 25 victories throughout the season. Despite this extraordinary feat, the UAE Team Emirates star attributes his accomplishments to a relentless spirit and is optimistic about achieving even greater heights in 2025.

In an interview with RTVSlo, Pogacar remarked, “So far, each season has been better than the last. I hope the next one will be even better.” The athlete emphasized his enthusiasm for new challenges, stating, “I like to test myself on the bike and enjoy nature. It’s not hard to motivate yourself.” This attitude reveals Pogacar’s intrinsic drive and commitment to his sport, traits that many cycling enthusiasts have come to admire.

What remains to be seen is how Pogacar plans to build upon his near-perfect record. He has indicated his intention to compete at either the Giro d’Italia or the Vuelta a España alongside the prestigious Tour de France. Additionally, he mentioned that the famed Milan–San Remo is among his primary objectives. “I can’t reveal much about the program yet,” he admitted in a conversation with Ekipa. “We’ll talk about it in December or later. We’re quite flexible about my program. The UAE Tour is a suitable race to start with.” This flexibility demonstrates Pogacar’s adaptability and strategic planning when approaching the competitive cycling calendar.

Reflecting on his 2023 performance, Pogacar noted, “This season’s performance on two Grand Tours worked out well, and I think I will continue in a similar rhythm for a few more years.” His determination is especially palpable regarding races that have eluded him. He specifically mentioned, “Milan-San Remo is a big cross I carry. It’s a race I really want to win.” This desire to conquer races that have historically been out of reach exemplifies his competitive nature.

As he gears up for the Tour de France next summer, Pogacar is eager to capture a fourth title. Achieving this feat would allow him to join the ranks of cycling greats like Chris Froome in the all-time standings, just one win shy of legends Eddy Merckx and Bernard Hinault. Pogacar’s ambition to etch his name deeper into the annals of cycling history is palpable, and he remains committed to his training and preparations.

When asked for his thoughts on the 2025 Tour de France route, he commented on the endless discussions surrounding course design, stating, “Every year there is speculation as to who the route is designed for, who is more suited to it.” Acknowledging the complexity of the Tour as a 21-stage race, he highlighted the need for a balanced route that accommodates sprinters, time trialists, and climbers alike. “Hard stages, a little stressful stages,” he noted, emphasizing the level of focus and physical preparedness required to compete effectively throughout the race.

Pogacar’s insightful reflections on the challenges ahead and his eagerness to familiarize himself with various slopes showcase his readiness for the battles that lie ahead in 2025. Cycling enthusiasts can look forward to a thrilling season, with Pogacar being a prominent figure in what promises to be a captivating display of athletic prowess and determination. The anticipation builds, and fans are eager to see how this young champion will further enhance his already impressive legacy in the world of cycling.
