PSG’s Luis Enrique Celebrates Arrival at Champions League Final, Jokingly Calls Out ‘Farmers League’ Critics

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) manager Luis Enrique recently shared his delight in a humorous manner, referring to the competition faced by his team as “the league of farmers” following their remarkable journey to the UEFA Champions League final. After overcoming four English Premier League teams, PSG secured their spot in the highly anticipated final scheduled to take place in Munich at the end of the month. The Parisians achieved this milestone by triumphing over Arsenal in their recent match, winning 2-1 in the French capital and thereby sealing a 3-1 aggregate victory.

Enrique’s squad showcased their prowess throughout the tournament, demonstrating dominance over all the English representatives they faced. Earlier in the group stages, they defeated Manchester City before progressing to eliminate formidable opponents such as Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Arsenal in succession during the knockout rounds. Each victory further underscored their capability and ambitions on the European stage.

When asked about his team’s impressive record against English teams, Enrique could not resist the opportunity to jest about perceptions surrounding Ligue 1. While addressing TNT Sports post-match, he remarked, “The league of farmers, no? We are the league of farmers!” His light-hearted comment served as a response to the persistent mockery directed at Ligue 1 by some football fans who often dismiss it as lacking competitiveness.

The Spanish tactician expressed immense pride not only in the results but also in the recognition that PSG has begun to receive from football enthusiasts and analysts alike. “It’s nice,” stated Enrique, reflecting on the feedback about his team. He emphasized the youthful nature of his squad, coupled with their competitive mentality and style of play, stating, “I think it’s nice. I also have to congratulate my players because they are great.” This recognition comes in parallel with PSG’s success as they have already clinched the Ligue 1 title, putting them in a strong position for a historic treble. They also have a Coupe de France final against Reims on the horizon which could further cement their legacy this season.

To attain this extraordinary feat, PSG aims to capture the coveted UEFA Champions League trophy—an accomplishment that has eluded the club thus far. Their final challenge comes against Internazionale, the Italian champions and three-time European winners, who finished as runners-up to Manchester City two years prior. Inter recently showcased their resilience by defeating Barcelona in a thrilling encounter, ultimately progressing to the final after a nail-biting 7-6 victory.

Enrique acknowledged the challenges ahead, recognizing Inter’s recent successes and capabilities. “It’s going to be tough, but I think they have the same feeling,” he stated regarding the final matchup, highlighting the significance of the occasion for both teams. He noted that it would indeed be a challenging battle for both squads, as they prepare to face off in what promises to be an exciting culmination to the tournament.

PSG has only once previously reached the Champions League final. That night in 2019/20 saw them narrowly lose to Bayern Munich by a single goal. “It means a lot,” expressed Enrique, echoing the aspirations of many within the club. He added that since their arrival in Paris, the primary objective was to make history, underscoring the club’s commitment to achieving greatness on the European stage.

As the final approach, excitement swirls around PSG’s campaign, with fans and players alike eager to witness if they can indeed lift the prestigious UEFA Champions League trophy and mark a definitive moment in the club’s storied history. The stage is set, and soon, the world of football will watch closely as he aims to lead his young, dynamic team toward a historic triumph.
