In May, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. raised $2.6 million for his presidential campaign, as reported in a new Federal Election Commission filing. This amount highlights the significant difference in funding compared to his major party competitors. The filing also revealed that Kennedy’s campaign spent $6.3 million last month, more than double the amount raised. This money was utilized for ballot access efforts, a crucial aspect of an independent presidential campaign.
The filing indicated that the campaign paid approximately $2.7 million to Accelevate 2020 LLC, a consulting firm specializing in ballot access services. Other expenditures were directed towards securing ballot access, with over $380,000 allocated to internet advertising. Despite these expenses, Kennedy’s campaign ended May with $6.4 million in cash on hand, a substantially smaller sum than his rivals, President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump.
Interestingly, Kennedy’s running mate, Nicole Shanahan, did not contribute any funds in May, despite previously donating $10 million to the campaign. Shanahan’s personal wealth serves as a crucial financial resource for the campaign, as she has the ability to make unlimited personal contributions.
Monthly FEC filings are due Thursday, providing further insight into the fundraising and spending activities of presidential campaigns and associated committees.
